On June 6th, Liu Zhengcheng, the Chairman of International Calligraphers Association, and experts from British Museum visited HBAFA. They delivered five lectures in Zhengcheng International Lecture Hall and North High Building Lecture Hall, which were attended by the students and teachers of the School of Calligraphy and the School of Plastic Arts.

At 7 o’clock, accompanied by Zhen Zhongyi, the guests visited the underground gallery, empire square, Jiming City etc. They were surprised by the fast development of the Academy, the large scale, unique constructions and advanced equipment.

Then, the experts were divided into two groups to deliver lectures in different places.

Frances Wood delivered a lecture entitled Dunhuang Study in the West. She explained Dunhuang study in simple terms and gave insights upon the subject.

Irving Finkel gave a lecture named Cuniform Writing for Chinese Scholars. He told us the history and development of cuneiform writing. Meanwhile, he elaborated on the discovery of Noah Ark.

Liu Zhengcheng elaborated upon Buddhist scriptures and wooden tablets in Han Dynasties. He showed us the writing and its development path.

Qiu Jinxian delivered a lecture named Restoration of Dunhuang and Other Chinese Antique Paintings in British Museum. She shared some techniques learned from her 30-year-plus experience in British Museum.

Joanna Finkel gave a lecture entitled Conservation in a Changing world: Art on Paper and Silk at the British Museum. She told us the brief background of paper conservation, focused on the care of graphic art and painting collections at the British Museum and talked about the Department of Conservation at the British Museum.
